Pak Handler, UPI Transfers & Army Secrets: Inside Punjab's Espionage Crackdown

Punjab Police have arrested a woman and her accomplice for allegedly leaking sensitive Indian Army movement data to a Pakistan-based intelligence officer. Investigations reveal monetary transactions, digital evidence, and a broader espionage network under the radar of security forces.

The arrests were made following intelligence inputs that linked the suspects to espionage activities involving sensitive military data and foreign operatives.

According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the arrested duo Guzala and Yameen Mohamad are residents of Malerkotla in Punjab. The police recovered two mobile phones from their possession, believed to contain crucial evidence of communication with a Pakistani handler.

The arrests come days after another espionage-related development in Amritsar where two men Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih were detained for allegedly leaking photographs and sensitive details of army cantonments and airbases to Pakistan's intelligence agency.

Money, Messaging, and Motives

During the interrogation, Guzala reportedly confessed to sharing confidential information about the Indian Army's activities with a Pakistani official stationed at the High Commission in New Delhi. The motive, she admitted, was financial. She received ₹30,000 in two tranches ₹10,000 and ₹20,000 via UPI from the accused official.

Police revealed that Guzala and her accomplice were in regular contact with the foreign handler and also involved in distributing funds to other local operatives on his behalf. These digital transactions have provided investigators with a financial trail crucial for tracing the broader network.

"This operation marks a significant step in dismantling cross-border espionage networks and reinforces our commitment to national security," said a senior police official.

Legal Action and Forward Trail

The investigation is being pursued under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Official Secrets Act, with a case formally registered at Police Station City-1 in Malerkotla. Authorities are now focused on expanding the probe to identify additional operatives, trace the financial transactions, and assess the scope of the information compromised.

Senior Superintendent of Police, confirmed that Guzala's admissions led to the arrest of her associate, Yameen Mohamad. The operation is being cited as a model case of coordinated intelligence, rapid response, and digital forensic tracing in counter-espionage.
